Mr Janez Potocnik, European Commissioner for Science and Research, is
visiting Athens on Friday, June 1st, for the official presentation of
the 7th Framework Programme to the Greek public. The open event will be
held at the Hotel Grand Bretagne, from 10am to 1pm and will also include
a speech by Professor Dr Helga Nowotny, Vice-President of the European
Research Council.
The event will be greeted by the Greek Minister of Development, Dimitris
Sioufas, the Vice Minister, Ioannis Papathanassiou and the Secretary
General for Research and Technology, Professor Ioannis Tsoukalas. A
press conference for the Greek media will follow.
The 7th Framework Programme is the main source of funding through which
the European Union supports research and technology projects in almost
every scientific field for the period 2007-2013. With a total budget of
53.2 billion euro, the 7th Framework Programme aims to bring into effect
the European Research Area and to contribute to the development of the
knowledge-based economy in Europe.
The National Documentation Centre (EKT) is a National Contact Point for
the 7th Framework Programme, namely for the Specific Programmes "Ideas"
(frontier research), "Cooperation" (themes: Information & Communication
Technologies, Energy, Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities) and
"Capacities" (themes: Research Infrastructures, Regions of Knowledge,
Research Potential).
