03/06/2004

The National Documentation Centre (EKT) organizes the workshop "6th Framework Programme - EU funding sources for research and technological development in the areas of fisheries and aquaculture" as well as the technology transfer brokerage event "IRC Business Forum", on 3 June 2004, in Athens.

The workshop is taking place within the frame of EKT's participation in the new European project FISH (Facilitating Innovation for Sustainable Fisheries and Marine Resources), which aims to support the Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) and the researchers active in the areas of fisheries and aquaculture in the 6th Framework Programme. The project involves 12 countries: Greece, France, Norway, Cyprus, Poland, UK, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Iceland, Sweden and the Netherlands.

The workshop includes a presentation of the Integrated Project SEAFOODplus (Integrated Project "Health promoting, safe seafood of high eating quality in a consumer driven fork-to-farm concept"). The project aims to reduce health problems, to prevent major diseases and to increase well-being among European consumers by using the opportunity to apply the benefits obtained through consumption of health promoting and safe seafood products of high eating quality and by applying a fork-to-fish approach.

The coordinator of the project will present the call for proposals for the involvement of SMEs in the consortium of the project, which already includes 70 partners. The call concerns SMEs interested in developing their seafood business and improving their profit through the swift application of the most recent innovative research results. The coordinator is available for bilateral meetings after the sessions.

Moreover, as coordinator of the Hellenic Innovation Relay Centre, EKT is organising a technology transfer brokerage event for companies and researchers involved in fisheries and aquaculture that are interested in establishing technological agreements. This is the third suchlike event organized in Greece, in cooperation with those members of the European Innovation Relay Centre Network active in the above sectors (Norway, France, UK, Iceland, Cyprus, Spain, Italy, etc).

All interested parties need to fill in the registration form and submit their technological profiles (technology offers/request) for partner search by 24 May 2004.

For prearranged meetings, all interested parties can consult the online catalogue of cooperation profiles and submit the appointment booking form to EKT by 28 May 2004.

It is noted that the exhibition ALIEIA 2004 (Thessaloniki, 3-6 June 2004), under whose framework the present event was initially scheduled, has been postponed.

Participation will be free of charge
