The project aims to identify and record the situation
of Greek women researchers that are active in
universities and research institutes, and to register their participation in
decision-making centres.
The mapping exercise is based on a specially formulated
questionnaire and personal interviews with a pre-selected
sample of researchers. The expected results are the
qualitative and quantitative recording of the female
researchers in the public sector, the production of useful
statistical indicators and the identification of the
parameters and the obstacles that affect women in the
development of their scientific career.
The project also includes the registration, at pilot
level, of postgraduate thesεs of women on issues related to
gender, family, employment, policies and equality. The
development of an integrated bibliography of Greek and
international articles, written by Greek female researchers
on the above thematic areas, during the period 2001-2005, is
also scheduled.
The statistical data and the production of indicators
will contribute to the evaluation of the current position
and the evolution of female researchers in the public
sector, as well as to the benchmarking with international
data. Particular emphasis is given to the participation of
women in high scientific and managerial posts, the
development of their scientific career, their diaspora per
scientific field, the relation between their professional
duties and their role in the family, the scale of their
problems in the working environment, the inequalities in
salaries and the efficiency of the evaluation system.
The indicators and the statistical results will be
utilized for the estimation of gender discrimination.
