Description - Objectives |
The MedOANet project addresses the necessity for coordinated
strategies and policies in Open Access to scientific
information. The project will enhance existing policies,
strategies and structures for Open Access and will
contribute towards the implementation of new ones in six
Mediterranean countries, namely Greece, Turkey, Italy,
France, Spain, and Portugal.
It will also ensure the effective exchange of experiences
and technical knowledge, as well as an efficient
communication among the Mediterranean countries. Finally, it
will produce guidelines for policy-makers for the effective
implementation of the Commission's recommendations on Open
Access and will engage key policy-makers and stakeholders
for Open Access, increasing awareness on key issues that
require action.
MedOANet is coordinated by the National Documentation Centre
(EKT) and is an initiative both in the context of its
institutional role for collection, organisation and
distribution of scientific and technological information in
transnational level, and in the context of reinforcing Open
Access, a practice adopted and supported by EKT via a
variety of developmental actions. The role of EKT is to
guide and coordinate strategic collaborations among the six
countries, which will aspire to successful adoption and
application of the policies for Open Access.
The consortium consists of institutions from 9 European
countries: EKT (National Documentation Centre, Greece),
CASPUR (Consorzio Interuniversitario per le Applicazioni di
Supercalcolo Per Universita e Ricerca, Italy), CNRS (Centre
National de la Recherche Scientifique, France), FECYT (Fundacion
Espagnola par la Ciencia y la Technologia, Spain), Minho
University (Portugal), Hacettepe University (Turkey), LIBER
(Ligue des Bibliotheques Europeennes de Recherche, The
Netherlands), The University of Nottingham (United Kingdom),
ENCES (European Network for Copyright in Support of
Education and Science, Germany). |
