The National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF), represented by Professor Dimitrios Kyriakidis (Director and Chairman of the Board) and the ?rebro University (?U) represented by Professor Jens Schollin, (Vice-Chancellor), signed a Letter of Intent declaring their intention to collaborate in the areas of Medical and Life Science research.
The NHRF will participate through its three (3) institutes that conduct research within the Life Sciences: 1) The Institute of Biological Research and Biotechnology, 2) The Institute of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and 3) The Theoretical and Physical Chemistry Institute. The ?U will participate through the faculties of Health and Medical Science and Science and Technology that carry out research and educate graduate students within the areas of Medical and Life Sciences.
This international collaboration will strengthen the postgraduate student?s research environment within the two organizations, stimulate research collaboration and increase the competitiveness in attracting external finances and resources. The purpose is to create strong common research environments that are successful at competing for funding at both the national and European level.
NHRF is a non-profit legal body of private law which was founded in 1958 and since 1989 is supervised by the General Secretariat of Research and Technology (GSRT) of the Ministry of Development. It is composed of six research institutes (three in the field of humanities, and three in the area of natural sciences), and the National Documentation Centre (EKT). The mission of the NHRF is the execution of mulit-disciplinary research in the sectors of humanities and natural sciences.
The Orebro University is one of the largest universities in Sweden, with 14,500 students, 12 departments and more than 80 study programmes in 50 different subjects. Concerning its research activity, the Orebro University is active in five different scientific sectors, trying at the same time to keep a trans-scientific approach. Within the framework of the post-graduate programmes of the university, international research programmes and cross-sector scientific research groups are organised in sectors such as the bio-sciences, mechanology, and humanitarian studies.
