A new technology for organising, easily searching and retrieving summarised digital content in different languages is being developed. The project is called REVEAL THIS (Retrieval of Video and Language for The Home user in an Information Society) and is coordinated by the Institute for language and Speech Processing (ILSP) and co-financed by the European Union's Sixth Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development ("Information Society Technologies - IST" Programme).
The goal of the project is to provide European citizens with a tool for
managing and organizing digital content, so that they may spend their
time utilizing, and not searching for, the content they are interested
in. Various groups, other than ILSP, are taking part in this project:
research centres SIAL (Speech Artificial Intelligence Language) LABS
Technology AG (Austria) and XEROX - The Document Company SAS (France),
Universities Katholieke Universiteit Leuven R&D (Belgium) and University
of Strathclyde (United Kingdom), as well as television stations BE TV SA
(Belgium) and TVEyes UK Ltd (United Kingdom).
The completed REVEAL THIS application will provide users with the
ability to save, categorise, semantically index and cross-link
multiplatform content (radio, television, internet) in various forms
(speech, document, image, video) and in different languages. Moreover,
REVEAL THIS will provide services for search, retrieval, summary and
translation of content, allowing the user to combine the independent
content received from various multimedia and channels based on his/her
personal data and interests.
The relevant technologies is presented at the "Crossing Media for
Improved Information Access" workshop organised by REVEAL THIS in the
context of the international "5th Language Resources and Evaluation
Conference" in Genoa (Italy) from 24 to 26 May.
