Abstract:
A Greek SME has developed an innovative patent-pending planar sound transducer, based on two symmetrical driving coils printed the one into the other. The two coils if connected in series give a very sensitive device, if connected in parallel give a high-power standing device. The driver, besides its enhanced acoustic performance, offers significant design possibilities to those skilled in electroacoustics. Joint Venture agreement is sought for the purpose of exploitation of the device.
Description:
A Greek SME has developed an innovative patent-pending diaphragmatic (planar) electroacoustic transducer that forms a complete sound-radiating transducer, with high efficiency and linearity. An easily exchangeable rectangular diaphragm of very thin polyamide film is made with a plurality of aluminium conductors formed on one side. The diaphragm forms two identical and symmetrical coils that are inside one another, in an order for conductors of each coil to be interlaced. The two coils are disposed in a dense air-gap of the magnet system, of high (BHmax) Neodymium magnets. The binary interlaced coils can be utilised in a number of modes:
- A serial connection provides a higher sensitivity compared to that of a single coil
- A parallel connection converts the transducer to a higher-power standing device
- A single-coil driving mode leaves the other coil to be used as a magnetic damping device for the whole diaphragm
- Moreover, a single-coil driving allows the utilisation of the other coil as a source for correcting feedback circuitry
Innovative Aspects:
The existing technology does not offer the exchanging diaphragm, either due to failure or for the purpose of changing the diaphragm's characteristics, for 3 available types of impedance: 2 x 9 ohms, 2 x 5.3 ohms, 2 x 3.4 ohms. Additionally, the two-coil configuration of the device gives designers new freedom to work out many possibilities and ideas within the same device: High-Sensitivity - High-Power, DDL (Direct Digital Loudspeaker), crossover at two frequencies, magnetic feedback circuitry and many other inventive possibilities and ideas.
Main Advantages:
A single device allows the designers to have a multifaceted apparatus, permitting them to take a large number of designing directions, which can be easily changed at will, for the purpose of attaining optimum results on a targeted loudspeaker system.
