The Greek National Library has developed a particularly significant
digital collection entitled "e-fimeris" which is available on the
Library's website. The collection consists of 220,006 pages of Greek
newspapers provided by the Greek National Library. All pages are
retrievable free of charge on the Internet and searchable by newspaper
title and publication date.
It is worth noting that, all 220,006 pages can be searched for content
after the use of optical character recognition (OCR) programs.
More specifically, the newspapers available, as part of the digital
collection, are the following:
ELEFTHERIA (1944 - 1967; 43,832 digitised pages)
EMPROS (1896 - 1969;
77,793 digitised pages)
RIZOPASTIS (1917 - 1983; 54,203 digitised
pages)
SCRIP (1893 - 1911; 19,006 digitised pages)
TACHIDROMOS (of
Egypt) (1958 - 1977; 25,172 digitised pages)
For the newspaper ELEFTHERIA, the user has the option of searching the
articles (total of 944,361 articles), whereas for the newspaper
RIZOSPASTIS, 33,851 articles have been indexed and can be retrieved by
searching the title of the article or the author. The newspaper articles
are provided in PDF format.
