Awards for Scientific Poster Presentations and Business Plans in the 2nd International Biotechnology Forum

The transfer of biotechnology innovations and applications in Greece, south-eastern Europe and the Middle East is the aim of the 2nd International Greek Biotechnology Forum (IGBF2), which will take place on 1-3 July 2005 in Athens. The Forum will cover the following areas: Animal and Plant Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, Medical Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Technology Transfer, Funding and Pharmaceutical Development.

During the Forum, an award will be given to the best scientific poster submitted for presentation. The poster must concern Biotechnology or its applications, must be original and unpublished and must be the product of co-operation between at least two research laboratories. The winner will be awarded the monetary prize of 1,000 euro and will be given the option of publishing their paper in the BIO journal. Interested researchers are requested to submit their posters to the Forum Secretariat no later than 30 May 2005.

The Organising Committee will also reward the best business plan for commercially significant Biotechnology applications. The plans will be held strictly confidential and will be evaluated by an independent committee of experts, with regard to originality, patenting and potential for future commercial use. The 1,000-euro monetary prize will be complemented by the opportunity to promote the plan through the BIONOVA network.

It is noted that the 1st International Greek Biotechnology Forum took place in June 2004, with the support of large public and private sector organisations, and attracted more than 800 participants and 60 speakers from academic and industrial research institutes.
