11/11/2014

The Community Innovation Survey for the period 2010-2012, carried out by the National Documentation Centre (EKT) in cooperation with the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), has been completed and the official statistics has been already submitted to the European Statistical Office (Eurostat). This data submission puts Greece back in the map of European indicators for Innovation, after a 6 year absence.

The Community Innovation Survey (CIS) is the official European survey for the collection of statistics on innovations and innovation activities in enterprises of the European Union. CIS results are published in international studies, such as the Innovation Union Scoreboard, and are used as a reference point for assessing innovation in EU countries and drawing new strategies at European and National level.

Following the survey results, more than 50% of the Greek enterprises are innovative in at least one type of innovation, with the majority being innovative in marketing (36.79%) and organisational methods (30.24%). Most enterprises proceed with the acquisition of machinery, equipment, etc. (73.55%), while an important share of enterprises performs Research & Development activities for the development of innovations (34.08%).

The production of CIS statistics in Greece is implemented by EKT in cooperation with ELSTAT, after the assignment by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology. The publication of the CIS 2012 national results is due to be published in the next weeks and will be available online at http://metrics.ekt.gr/.
