The Operational Programme "Education and Primary Vocational Training" (EPEAEK II), co-funded by the European Union, within a complete system of interconnecting measures and actions, have as their objective the improvement of the educational system and its services, in order to respond more effectively to real social needs by opening up communication channels and links to the job market.

The policies, developed by EPEAEK II are based on an integrated plan with internal continuity of actions connected to the whole educational policy. Under EPEAEK II (2000-2006), the activities of the programme are based on the following Priority Axes:

PRIORITY AXIS 1: Promotion of equal opportunities for all, in obtaining access to the job market and mainly to those threatened with social exclusion.

PRIORITY AXIS 2: Promotion and improvement of education and vocational training within the framework of life-long training.
Total cost: 540,450 million drs.

PRIORITY AXIS 3: Development and promotion of entrepreneurship and involvement of young people.
Total cost: 6,748 million drs.

PRIORITY AXIS 4: Improvement of women's access to the job market.
Total cost: 24,500 million drs.

PRIORITY AXIS 5: Creation and support of infrastructures for the implementation of European Social Fund (ESF) measures.
Total cost: 180,000 million drs.
