A new website dedicated to the history and culture the Aegean Archipelago from prehistory to the current day can be found at www.egeonet.gr. It is the cultural portal of the Aegean Archipelago encompassing texts relating both to specific islands as well as wider issues of historical, cultural and environmental interest.
The portal was designed and developed by the Foundation of the Hellenic World as part of a project financed by the Ministry of the Aegean & Island Policy. The objective was to develop a website containing cultural and historical information to highlight and showcase the Aegean?s unique features.
The information is available in texts presenting both the history and culture of the islands and wider issues of a cultural and historical nature. The project also serves as an internet guide featuring a database that lists, classifies and describes websites related to the project, thus enabling the user to surf the web about issues relating to the Aegean.
All traditional forms of information (text, data tables, photographs, drawings and maps) as well as several multimedia technologies were used in implementing the project.
