Public debate launched for the Technology Foresight results

20/12/2004

A series of information days are being organised in six Greek cities for the dissemination of the Technology Foresight results, aiming at a public debate on the development of a strategy for the development of the Greek Knowledge Society.

The Greek Technology Foresight programme, a project funded by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology, aims at looking into the future of the Greek economy and society by identifying the implications of emerging science and technology. The time horizons for this investigation are the years 2015 and 2021, and the implemented procedures are participatory and interactive.

The launch event for the dissemination of the results took place on 19 November 2004, in Athens. The particularly successful event was assisted by the General Secretary for Research and Technology Prof. I. Tsoukalas. Among the key speakers of the event were Prof. E. Koukios, responsible for the project consortium, who presented an overview of the results, and Dr David Gibson from the University of Texas (IC2 Institute) who presented systems and policies for the global learning society, innovation poles, knowledge flows and development dynamics.

Another event entitled "The Governance in Economy and Knowledge Society" was also organised, within the framework of the public debate, on 13 December 2004, in Thessaloniki. The event included presentations on public administration, new trends of governance, eBusiness activities and initiatives for digital cities. Similar events will follow in Ioannina, Patra, Herakleion and Larissa.

More information about the events, as well as the summary of the project's results are available on the website: http://www.foresight-gsrt.gr/
