Change2IT: A "Smart" Internet Portal to Finding IT Personnel

15/11/2004

A new Internet portal for those who wish to pursue a career in IT is now operating at www.Change2IT.com, offering a range of innovative services, such as automatic notification about suitable job positions depending on each applicant's preferences and skills, special personality tests and an electronic training guide.

The portal was recently singled out for an important European distinction, as it is included in the 70 candidate projects for the most distinguished European award for innovative products and services in the field of Information Society Technologies (IST Prize 2005). Being an IST Prize Nominee is an important quality certification, as the candidate products and services are thoroughly evaluated by a group of independent judges.

The Change2IT Web site was developed through the MultiTrain project, with the support of the eContent programme of the European Union and with the participation of the Greek companies Atlantis Consulting S.A. and Information Quality Systems S.A. The outcome of this project was the creation of an Internet platform which aids all those interested in starting a career in the IT field, by providing information on market trends, as well as access to an advanced search engine which identifies and categorises the most appropriate opportunities for each candidate and the most suitable candidates for each vacancy.

One of the project's main objectives is to assist information technology specialists, as well as those who are interested in pursuing a career in IT but have a different academic and occupational background, to locate and develop the necessary skills and to find suitable employment in the field of information technology. The European Union is supporting Change2IT in order to help fill job vacancies and reduce unemployment.

The web site offers a series of services to candidate employees, such as IT skill evaluation tests, adapted personality tests that provide information about the work roles that would best suit each person, statistics on the market's supply and demand of IT skills, a database of organisations providing e-learning services, discussion forums etc.

One of the portal's unique characteristics is its advanced job position search engine, which was designed to help employers fill their vacancies with the most suitable candidates, by significantly reducing the time needed for the evaluation process, through an advanced application management and matching engine. In this model, only the most suitable candidates are automatically notified of job openings; existing services, on the other hand, simply post such openings.

An automatic system for evaluation, grading and sorting applications according to employers' criteria is also available. This new model provides yet another value-added service to companies, increases productivity and significantly reduces recruitment costs.

The Change2IT Web portal is available in Greek, English, German and Dutch. At this time, more than 65 IT posts are active, while more than 6,000 specialists have registered to the system.
