The 3rd Conference on dialogue in foresight policy will be held by the General Secretariat for Research & Technology and the Greek Research and Technology Network on 26-27 November 2007 in Athens at the Ministry of Development.
Foresight is a tool for planning economic and social policy, emphasising the role of science, research and technology. Focused on developments in science and technology, future scenarios of "potential worlds" are created and the best prospects for developing the knowledge society are explored. Based on these scenarios the state then plans its policy priorities and makes suitable decisions while businesses adjust their strategies to face possible challenges in the new global environment.
The Conference "Policy Dialogue, ERA: Transnational Foresight as a Policy Planning Tool" is being organised in the context of the European network ForSociety ERA-Net. 19 organisations from 15 countries are members of the network, including the General Secretariat for Research & Technology and the Greek Research and Technology Network. The purpose of the network is to coordinate national foresight initiatives at a European level and to develop synergies between bodies involved, to achieve the best possible results and establish a European Research Area.
More than 140 representatives of bodies involved in foresight, members of parliament from various European countries, and other experts are expected to attend the conference.
