Europeana for Research and Tourism was an invitation-only strategic meeting organised between Europeana, National Documentation Centre (EKT) and Culture24, with the support of the European Commission and the Hellenic General Secretariat for Research and Technology. The event was addressed at policy makers from the research, tourism and culture sectors.
The aim of the event was for policymakers to investigate the value of reusing Europe's digitised cultural heritage and Europeana in particular, to advance growth in tourism and research, and to produce actionable measures for all involved stakeholders to this end.
The program of the event included inspiring talks by academics and tourism industry representatives and break out table discussions for elaborating the recommendations produced in preparation of the meeting by EKT and Europeana.
Finally, participants had the opportunity to take part in the reenactment of the Story of Suzanna at the gardens of the Byzantine Museum in Athens, as part of the Van Go Yourself activity, a Europeana initiative aiming at enhancing user engagement with culture through play: http://vangoyourself.com/vango/the-story-of-susannah-defterevon-sifnios-vangod-by-europeana-for-research-tourism/.
