According to the results, Greek research groups were involved in 591 projects, accounting for 25.7% of the total projects that were funded. Greek participants attracted a total of 330.42 million EUR of EU funding (4.3% of the total funding), placing Greece in the top 5 European countries with regard to the amount of funding received compared to the size of their ICT sector. The average success rate for proposals with Greek participation stood at 13.2%, placing Greece in 12th place in all 28 EU Member States.

The data for 2011 and 2012 are now available in the Eurostat database and are already used for framing research and innovation policies, such as Smart Specialisation Strategies for Greek Regions. Overall findings so far are encouraging as Gross Domestic Expenditure for R&D reached 0.69 of GDP (EUR 1,338 million) in 2012.

The project aims to support the networks of the agricultural and food products sector (unions, co-operatives, groups of growers, etc), in order to make a transition from the local producer level to the market and the final consumer, via the application of specialised evaluation tools and the exchange of experience and best practices with other networks and unions at a pan-European level. Participating in the project, which was co-funded by the 6th Framework Programme for EU research, were the Management and Development Corporation of Technological Park of Thessaloniki SA (TTP/MDC SA) as well as the University Departments and Centres for the support of innovation and entrepreneurship from six other European countries (Spain, Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic).

Small businesses with 1-9 employees are still far away from converging with Europe. As regards the use of the internet by citizens, the messages emerging from the younger generations are positive, although the 35-54 age group continues to avoid adopting new technologies. Six detailed studies have been made, throughout Greece, concerning Households, Businesses, e-Government, e-Learning, e-Health and Cost of Interconnection.

It is the fourth free-of-charge wireless hotspot in the centre of Athens (following those at Syntagma Square, Thissio and Kotzia Square). As stressed at the conference, the use of public WiFi HotSpots is constantly increasing, particularly among the young, which has led the state to sponsor the operation of 100 such HotSpots all over Greece. The conference was held at the NHRF as part of the celebrations for its 50 year anniversary, in collaboration with the Special Secretariat of Digital Planning of the Ministry for Finance and Economy.

According to the results of quantitative and qualitative research, female researchers in the public sector (universities and research institutes) consider the lack of appropriate state policy and commitments towards children and family to be fundamentally restrictive factors for their scientific careers. For this reason, they consider State family support and an improvement in working conditions to be essential.

The Innovation Center, one of the many already operating in Europe (Germany, Denmark, Croatia, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Latvia, Romania, Italy and Finland), was anticipated in the bill for collaboration between the Greek State and Microsoft, which was voted by the Greek Parliament on 18/1/2008. This ratifies the collaboration agreement between Greece and Microsoft which was signed in 2006 by Bill Gates and the Minister for Finance and Economy, Giorgos Alogoskoufis.

The Centre will operate from the Evaggelismos Hospital and aims to support the collaboration between the neuroscientific and biotechnology communities in Greece, as well as researching modern microprocessing and nanotechnology implant systems in the field of neuroengineering. The establishment and operation of the Centre was made possible by the support of three organisations: the University of Athens; Evaggelismos Hospital; and the Kokkalis Foundation. The network and telephone services of the Centre have recently been significantly upgraded with sponsorship from the telecommunications provider Hellas On Line (HOL).

The subject matter of the research is a fundamental biological problem: how cells direct the movement of their proteins.
