New ERC video "Greece: the European Research Council makes a difference"

19/06/2014

A video clip with the title "Greece: the ERC makes a difference", on the impact of the European Research Council (ERC) in Greece, was released recently. To date, Greece has received almost 57 million euros in ERC funding. The video can be found in Greek (EL) and in English (EN). The ERC is widely seen as the flagship of the EU programmes for research (the 7th Framework Programme and now Horizon 2020): it is an EU body led by scientists, including Nobel Prize winners, which gives substantial grants to top researchers.

The clip features three Greek researchers, talking about the aim and progress of their pioneer research, and what the ERC funding means to them, both personally and in terms of how it has supported their career.

Prof. George Kordas, who has been awarded two ERC grants, talks about his project, NANOTHERAPY, which investigates new ways of drug delivery for cancer patients.

Dr Effie Fokas, the only ERC grantee funded in Greece in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities talks about her GRASSROOTSMOBILISE project, which examines the social impact of decisions made by the European Court of Human Rights on religious freedom.

Dr Maria Fousteri from the Biomedical Sciences Research Centre Alexandre Fleming, presents her TRANSARREST project, about the impact of a failure of genomic transcription, which challenges the stability of the genome and is a facture in the development of genetic defects and the mechanisms underlying disease processes such as premature ageing.
