Research & Development Expenditure and Personnel in Greece in 2013 - Main Indicators

The National Documentation Centre published in March 2014 the final data of the main R&D Expenditure and Personnel indicators for reference year 2013. The complete set of more detailed data broken down type of expenditure, type of R&D personnel, educational level, sex, region, field of science, etc. will be made available in June 2015 (Commission Regulation 995/2012).

Greek Scientific Publications 1998-2012: A bibliometric analysis based on data from the Web of Science Database

The National Documentation Centre of Greece (EKT) has launched a study series based on bibliometric analyses which produce established and reliable indicators for research activity in Greece. The study series "Greek Scientific Publications: a Bibliometric Analysis of Greek Publications in International Scientific Journals" aims to identify the basic characteristics of Greek scientific output and to explore Greece s position in the international scientific landscape.

Greek participation in the European Programme "Information and Communication Technologies" in FP7

A new study conducted by the National Documentation Centre presents the results concerning the Greek participation in the European project "Information and Communication Technologies" (ICT) of the 7th Framework Programme (FP7) for Research for the period 2007-2013. According to the results, Greek research groups were involved in 591 projects, accounting for 25.7% of the total projects that were funded. Greek participants attracted a total of 330.42 million EUR of EU funding (4.3% of the total funding), placing Greece in the top 5 European countries with regard to the amount of funding received compared to the size of their ICT sector. The average success rate for proposals with Greek participation stood at 13.2%, placing Greece in 12th place in all 28 EU Member States.

Statistics for Innovation in Greek Enterprises, 2010-2012

The Community Innovation Survey for the period 2010-2012, carried out by the National Documentation Centre (EKT) in cooperation with the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), has been completed and the official statistics has been already submitted to the European Statistical Office (Eurostat). This data submission puts Greece back in the map of European indicators for Innovation, after a 6 year absence.

Europeana for Research and Tourism Event in Athens

Europeana for Research and Tourism was an invitation-only strategic meeting organised between Europeana, National Documentation Centre (EKT) and Culture24, with the support of the European Commission and the Hellenic General Secretariat for Research and Technology. The event was addressed at policy makers from the research, tourism and culture sectors. The aim of the event was for policymakers to investigate the value of reusing Europe's digitised cultural heritage and Europeana in particular, to advance growth in tourism and research, and to produce actionable measures for all involved stakeholders to this end.

New ERC video "Greece: the European Research Council makes a difference"

A video clip with the title "Greece: the ERC makes a difference", on the impact of the European Research Council (ERC) in Greece, was released recently. To date, Greece has received almost 57 million euros in ERC funding. The video can be found in Greek (EL) and in English (EN). The ERC is widely seen as the flagship of the EU programmes for research (the 7th Framework Programme and now Horizon 2020): it is an EU body led by scientists, including Nobel Prize winners, which gives substantial grants to top researchers.

MariMatch 2014: More than 350 business meetings at the International Shipping Exhibition "Posidonia"

ิhe brokerage forum, MariMatch 2014, was organised by Enterprise Europe Network-Hellas (EEN-Hellas), the biggest network in Greece for entrepreneurship and innovation, at the International Shipping Exhibition "Posidonia" on the 4th & 5th June 2014 in Athens. The matchmaking event was initiated by the National Documentation Centre (EKT), EEN-Hellas coordinator, in order to enhance Greek businesses and research institutions participation in the event, for them to meet potential international business and research partners.

Research & Development Expenditure and Personnel in Greece in 2011& 2012

The official statistics for Research & Development (R&D) in Greece, with indicators for expenditure spent and personnel engaged in R&D activities, were sent to Eurostat by the National Documentation Center (EKT), after numerous years of Greece's absence. The data for 2011 and 2012 are now available in the Eurostat database and are already used for framing research and innovation policies, such as Smart Specialisation Strategies for Greek Regions. Overall findings so far are encouraging as Gross Domestic Expenditure for R&D reached 0.69 of GDP (EUR 1,338 million) in 2012.
