Programme for Research Cooperation in the Western Balkans

The General Secretariat for Research and Technology has recently issued a new call for the submission of proposals for research cooperation within the framework of the "South-East European ERA-NET / SEE-ERA-NET" programme. It is a joint pilot invitation from the 14 countries that are participating in the specific programme, aiming at expanding the European Research Area to the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, FYROM, Croatia, Serbia & Montenegro) and the coordination and support of research policies and actions.

In particular, the joint call was issued in Greece, Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, FYROM and Albania. It is directed at Universities, research centres and enterprises with regard to the following projects:

- Research projects in which at least three institutions from three different countries are participating (at least one from the W. Balkans).
- Network projects in which at least five institutions from three different countries are participating (at least two from the W. Balkans).
- Summer schools in which at least three institutions from three different countries are participating (at least one from the W. Balkans).

The thematic areas that were chosen are based on the priorities of Western Balkan countries and cover subjects such as: Food-Agriculture-Biotechnology (sustainable production and management of biological resources from land, forest and aquatic environments), Information and Communication Technologies (Applications Research), Environment (Environmental Technologies).

The projects include action funding for the mobility of researchers, fees for new researchers, planning events, equipment, consumables etc. The deadline for the submission of proposals is 31st March 2007.
